The Landing is year-long program that helps teenagers travel the path to freedom, healing, and wholeness. This dynamic resource mirrors the content presented in the successful Celebrate Recovery program. The lessons deliver hope-filled truths and real-life strategies for giving young people the tools for making wise choices and developing healthy patterns for living.

A WORD FROM STACEY SICKO, DIRECTOR:
Hello, my name is Stacey A. Sicko; I am a member of the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church, and am a current member of the American Association of Christian Councelors (AACC). I spent about a year-and-a-half preparing for The Landing, attending seminars and attaining Certificates of Completion in Caring for Teens God's Way, Addiction & Recovery, and Caring for People God's Way (earned via home study at Light University in Virginia). I soon will complete Breaking Free, and will earn my diploma in Biblical Counceling in January 2013, all recognized by the AACC.

The vision for The Landing here at the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church is to provide a safe place for teenagers to learn about their hurts, hang-ups, and habits. We provide a fully engaging environment designed to get teens talking about and exploring new ways of thinking and doing. The goal is to help teens get closer to Jesus to live a freer, healthier, and more God-centered life. We use fun activities including discussion, music, and video that leads to deeper learning. Each of our six leaders are followers of Christ, and have participated in a 13-week training program to prepare for this adventure.

The Landing meets every Tuesday night from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall. It is open to teens in the community, grades six through 12.

AN UPDATE: SIX MONTHS!

As the snow melts and flowers start to bud, we smile now that spring is upon us. This year my smile is larger than usual as the Holy Spirt warms my heart when I think of The Landing and all who are there.

It's a safe haven that will help you overcome life-controlling hurts, hangups, and habits - or simply provide you with insights on following God's path to greater freedom in your life." - The Landing Journal

The Landing has been blessed with some wonderful and dedicated leaders; listed in alphabetical order they are: Chantel Bink, Samantha Cummings, Jon Gerstel, Bryan Manning, Pastor Josh Michaels, Emily Olson, and myself. Sherry Bowman Kluck is also a valuable person behind the scenes, with her role focused on setting up and marketing The Landing. Each leader is a believer in Christ and provides a safe environment for the teens that attend; they are unique, loving individuals that give support to our teens as well as each other.

As with any new program we are working on adjustments through what I like to call "trial and error". For me personally, I am learning how to lead. It is a challenge, although I have found that when I lean on the Holy Spirit and give it to God, amazing things happen.

For our six-month celebration, the teens who attend have chosen to celebrate at The Edge in Halfmoon. It will be a fun afternoon enjoying indoor rock climbing, and then a pizza party. We will be meeting at the church on Saturday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m., leaving promptly at 4:15 p.m., and returning at 8:00 p.m. If you are a teenager in grades six through 12 you are invited to join us on our trip; come and hang out with other teens who attend The Landing and meet our fantastic leaders.
